True West magazine has ranked Cheyenne, WY as No. 5 on its top 10 list of western towns. The list, to published this month, is made up of towns that best embody the spirit of the West through historical events and preservation efforts.
“True West magazine is read by great fans of the West. To be recognized by this publication is quite an honor just because of that background,” said Darren Rudloff, president of the Cheyenne Area Convention and Visitors Bureau.
“Cheyenne is one of those magical Old West names, one that conjures up images of cattle barons and cowboys, northern railroads and rodeos,” the magazine says in its January/February issue.
“This helps put Cheyenne on the map for both tourism as well as a spot where people can look to move,” she said. “From information that we’ve received, a lot of people are starting to look at the community (where they’d like to move) before they look for a job.”
This type of recognition is great exposure for one of the most authentic western towns left in America. Affordable ranch land and a lifestlye filled with elements of the old west help continually attract new residents to the Cheyenne area.
The top honor of True Western Town for 2007 has awarded to Helper, Utah.
